Using Plastic Joints (compression Fit)





There may come a time, when you are doing some plumbing work, yourself or indeed by a plumber, and are using plastic pipework. The chances are that you will have to make a joint between two pipes. Push fit joints and compression joints are so easy to do. South East London Plumbers can fit these types of joints. They are a big time saver and also leave no mess. So how do you make the joint with a compression fitting? The first task is to take the joint apart and look at the pieces and make sure that they are all there. There should be two olives, two nuts and of course the fitting itself. Two pipe inserts are definitely required for this type of joint.

Note: never use brass olives with these joints, you must always use copper as the will compress quite easily.

So, you now must make sure that you push the nut onto the pipe, followed by the olive, now, push one of the pipe inserts into the end of the pipe and push them both fully together. Push the end of the pipe into the fitting, you might have to give it a real push, as, depending on what system you're using, the pipe insert will be tight but gives support at the joint.
It may have a little rubber seal on it which will create some resistance it will also help to keep everything dry. Now you can do exactly the same for the other pipe, making sure the parts go on in the right order.

TIP.
As stated earlier, the most important part of this sequence is the pipe insert, as without it the plastic pipe will just crush as you tighten the olive. A South East London Plumber uses all types of joints.
